Discover amazing streetart of Łódź with the new map [ENG]
One of the hallmarks of Łódź are murals - large-scale paintings decorating walls of buildings. Their number increases from year to year, adding colour to the urban space. Murals are also a magnet attracting tourism to Łódź. It’s just for the visitors Łódź Tourism Organization has prepared the first comprehensive map of the contemporary streetart of Łódź.
The author of the study is Piotr Miłek, tourist information employee and lover of streetart of Łódź.
Piotr has made an effort to inventory and prepare the map of all contemporary murals that are currently on the walls of buildings in Łódź. There are 130 murals and installations whose patrons are i. a. Urban Forms Gallery or Lodz Events Center. The authors of these projects are often world-famous artists, such as ROA from Belgium, Inti from Chile or INO from Greece. Murals of Łódź are also often a promotion for young Polish artists. The map prepared by ŁTO also includes memorial murals created as part of Children of Bałuty initiative and murals for Centenary of Independence. Therefore streetart lovers have the opportunity to see more than 160 murals and installations in Łódź.
Large-format art in urban space is now one of the tourist attractions of Łódź. It’s difficult to find another city in Poland with such a large number of murals. Art installations perfectly complete the post-industrial character of the city. The example of Łódź shows, that no medieval old town typical for Polish cities, can be an advantage that allows to adapt the space of downtown in a completely different, unique way.
During the press briefing, that took place on Monday, January 7, at the office of Łódź Tourist Organization, the streetart map of Łódź was officially presented. The map can be downloaded from www.lodz.travel It’s also available in tourist information at 28 Piotrkowska Street.
